You need to:

  • Choose an art-form that you enjoy

  • Reflect on your strengths and weaknesses in that art-form

  • Set yourself a challenge in the art-form

  • Create an action plan of how you will complete the challenge you’ve set yourself

Download the worksheet or the powerpoint template below to help you complete this section.

If you don’t have powerpoint you can open the template in google slides instead.

This unit is all about planning

Not everything has to be written. If you don’t like writing you can record your answers as an audio or video file.

  1. What art form are you interested in?

Pick an art form that you enjoy, and that you have some experience in. Tell us what this is.

  2. List at least 3 strengths you have in this art form

Maybe you use certain materials or techniques really well.
Maybe you have strong technical skills like accurate drawing or neat finishing.
Or you might be confident in using colours.
Be honest and celebrate the things you can clearly show in your work!

  3. List at least 3 weaknesses you have in this art form

Maybe you struggle with using certain tools or materials.
You might find it hard to finish work quickly.
You might be not so good at presenting or showing your work to others.
Remember - recognising these challenges will help you improve and set a great arts challenge for yourself!

  4. What challenge could you could set yourself to help you improve in this art form?

Think about something that will help you develop.
This could involve learning a new technique, experimenting with a different style, working quickly, or something else!

    Describe your arts challenge
    Why have you chosen this?
Is your challenge about developing / improving a skill you already have?
Or are you going to try something new?

  5. What will be outcome from your challenge?

What will you create or achieve by the end of your challenge?

Here’s an example by another young designer:

Now create an action plan to help you achieve
the challenge you have set yourself

Not everything has to be written. If you don’t like writing you can record your answers as an audio or video file.

  1. What steps will you have to take to achieve your challenge?

Break your challenge into smaller steps so it feels more manageable.
    What will you do first?
    What comes next?
Think about planning, practicing, creating, and finishing.
Try to list these steps in order so you have a clear path to follow.

  2. Who or what will you need to help you?

Will you need support from a teacher, mentor, or friend?
Are there materials or equipment you’ll need?
Tell us everything that will help you complete your challenge successfully.

  3. How will you arrange this?

How will you make sure you have what you need?
Will you book a space, borrow equipment, or ask for advice or lessons?
Think about how you will organise your time and resources to make your plan work.

  4. What targets will you set to achieve throughout your challenge, and how will you show you are working towards them?

Set small goals to help you stay on track.
You might add some dates to give yourself a deadline.
Think about how you will show your progress as you go along, maybe by taking photos, keeping a diary, or collecting examples of your work.

  5. How will you collect feedback about your arts challenge?

Who will you ask for feedback?
Will you ask them questions, record their comments, or collect written feedback?
Feedback will help you improve and reflect on your challenge.

  6. Add any extra thoughts, notes, comments, or extra evidence

Include anything else that might help you plan or explain your challenge.
You could add sketches, timelines, photos of your progress, or notes on what inspired you.
This is your chance to show your thinking and ideas in more detail.
