Find Out
Tell Us:
What art forms are you interested in?
Is there a particular style or specialism that excites you? For example:
Set design for TV or Theatre
Gaming Design
Architecture
Engineering
Animation
Describe the kind of people or careers involved in these art forms
• Who makes this type of work happen?
• You could mention artists, designers, performers, directors, technicians, engineers, producers, curators, or other creative roles.
• Think about what they do day to day, and what skills they might need.
What kind of places might they work?
Do they work in studios, factories, workshops, theatres, film sets, galleries, design agencies, workshops, on tour, or even from home?
Research
You need to show us that you found out more about people, places and pathways linked to your chosen art form.
There is a list of things you could do on the download worksheet above, but you don’t have to meet someone in person or do something big - there are lots of simple ways to pass this unit
Here are some ideas for what you could do:
Watch a video or online talk by a creative professional
Read an interview with a creative professional online or in a magazine
Visit a local exhibition or art space and find out who created the work
Email or message an artist or designer to ask them a few questions (even if they don’t reply, you can show us your email)
Join an online workshop or virtual tour
Research an artist, designers, or arts organisation’s website and write about what they do
Find out if there are any courses at college, university, or apprenticeships which help people enter this industry.
Remember to keep evidence of anything you did in your research. You might:
Include screenshots, photos, or links if you watched or read something online
Take a photo of any notes you made or printouts you used
Keep copies of any emails or messages you sent, and anything you received
Add drawings or diagrams showing what you learned about the artist’s job or career path
Next, you need to tell us:
What did you do to get involved?
• Explain clearly what you did to learn more - for example, did you watch a talk, read an article, visit a gallery, email someone, or join a workshop.
Did you find out about future education or career pathways in the arts?
• What did you discover about training, courses, or jobs in this art form?
• Did you find out about college courses, apprenticeships, or different ways artists develop their skills?
What evidence do you have to show what you did?
• Show us any photos, screenshots, copies of emails, notes you made, or even sketches.
What did you learn about how artists develop their careers and work?
• Did you learn how they started out, what inspires them, or how they make a living?
Did you find other opportunities within your art form?
For example:
• Did you find workshops you could join?
• Competitions to enter
• Places to show your work?
How has what you found out influenced or inspired you?
• Has it changed the way you think about art, design and creative work?
• Did it give you new ideas or make you want to try something different?
Summarise
Finally, you need to summarise what you have found out. Let’s make it a creative activity! You could:
Write a blog post with headings and photos.
Create a mind map or poster with pictures and keywords.
Make a video or voice recording talking through what you discovered.
Put together a slide presentation (e.g., PowerPoint or Google Slides).
Design an information page or scrapbook spread.
Use a timeline to show how an artist’s career developed and what you learned from it.
