Explore the arts as an audience member
There are examples towards the bottom of this page showing how other young people have completed this work. You might find it helpful to look at these before starting.
You need to:
Attend at least one arts event and show evidence of attending
Reflect on the event and what you thought of it
Share all of this with someone

Stage 1: Find an arts event to go to
This might be:
Going to see a local carnival or parade
Visiting a Comicon
Attending an open studio day at an art gallery
Visiting a local art exhibition
Going to see a play or concert
Going on a sculpture trail
What else could you think of going to see?
Whatever you go to, make sure to gather evidence of you attending. This might be photos, or a ticket, or a flyer for the event.
If you are really stuck for places to go, why not watch one of these virtual arts experiences
We’ve selected these examples especially for children and families who might not have access to creative activities locally, can’t easily travel, or find busy spaces overwhelming. They’re a great way to experience the arts from home and get inspired!
Stage 2: Reflect on the event
Use the prompts below to help you answer each of the questions.
You could filll this in on the powerpoint, or record your answers as an audio or video file if you prefer.
Tell us:
(B1) What arts event did you experience?
Tell us the name of the arts event
Include photos, a ticket or flyer, or any other evidence of you being there.
(B2) What happened at the arts event?
Describe what happened, what you saw or experienced
(B3) What art forms where involved?
Think about what types of art you saw. For example: dance, music, drama, film, visual arts, or a mix of different art forms.
(B4) Why did you choose to attend?
Explain what made you pick this event. Did something about it interest or excite you?
(B5) What did you like about it and why?
Tell us what you enjoyed most and what made it stand out for you.
(B6) Was there anything you didn’t like about it, and why?
If there was something you didn’t enjoy, explain what it was and why it didn’t work for you.
(B7) Would you recommend this event to others? Why / Why not?
Think about whether you would suggest it to friends or family, and explain your reasons.
(B8) What did you learn from this arts event?
Tell us if you discovered anything new about the art form, or if it gave you ideas or inspiration for your own work.
Stage 3: Share your review with someone
This doesn’t mean doing a big presentation (unless you want to!)
There are lots of ways you might share your review.
You might:
As an adult to share it on their social media to gather feedback from family and friends
Put your review on the fridge with magnets so that people can read it in their own time and leave you feedback
Share it in one of our monthly sessions
Sit down with a family member and talk them through your powerpoint
Tell us:

Are you going to use any of the ideas above, or share it in a different way? Describe your plans for sharing.
However you decide to share your review, make sure to take photographs or screenshots as evidence

This is an example of a very large sharing event, but remember you can share in whatever way you feel comfortable.

Lily reflected on her visit. It would have been a stronger piece of work if she'd answered each of the questions on the powerpoint template, however it was great to read a review in her own words and own style. Lily shared this at one of our online sessions.
