Freedom Champions

To celebrate the 2020 Freedom Festival, we asked young people from across the UK - ‘What does freedom mean to you?’ Each young person compiled images to show what ‘freedom’ means to them as individuals, and they collectively suggested and voted on two ‘Freedom Champions’ – famous individuals who they thought represented freedom. All of the young people's images of 'freedom' form a mosaic of the faces of the Freedom Champions they’ve chosen.

The two champions chosen by the young people are Bessie Coleman - the first black woman to obtain a pilot's license and Ellie Simmonds - due to her dedication, commitment and resilience.
