#Dyslexia Sweet Stories
In this project we are collecting stories from people of all ages, with each person comparing dyslexia to a sweet, and explaining why.
So far, people have told us stories, such as:
“Dyslexia is like Popping Candy because I can’t stop thoughts going off in my head - it’s like fireworks”
Listen to some of the Dyslexia Sweet Stories we’ve collected so far…
Sweets?
Yes, Sweets! Dyslexic people often find creative concepts like metaphors work well for them. For anyone who doesn’t have dyslexia, understanding it can be quite complex, so using metaphors or similes such as ‘Reading makes my head feel cloudy like a marshmallow’ aids understanding, by making experiences tangible, vivid, and more relatable.
“For me, dyslexia is like a Sherbet Fountain, I know that some bits about it are good, but when I have English lessons at school it’s like being made to eat the liquorice stick – I’d rather not eat that bit!”
We want your stories!
We want personal sweet stories from anyone aged 8 to 108. Tell us - if dyslexia was a sweet, which sweet would it be? And why?
